Cycling Weekly tests Corkscrew Climb
Few reviewers command as much respect as Anne-Marije Rook (aka ‘Rook’), the North American editor for Cycling Weekly, the world’s oldest bike magazine. Rook really knows how to ride: She placed 2nd in the 350-mile Unbound XL in 2023, the year when it was relentlessly muddy and most racers had trouble just keeping their bikes upright. She is curious about new developments that are outside the mainstream—when we met for the first time at Unbound, she was full of questions about Mark and my then-new (and slightly crazy) steel bikes that just had completed the XL. To top it off, everybody knows that Rook is willing to write a negative review when a product doesn’t perform as advertised.

That’s why it means a lot to us when Rook tested our new Corkscrew Climb semi-slicks and headlined her article: “With pro racer input and patent-pending innovations, Rene Herse unveils a ‘best of both worlds,’ fast yet grippy gravel tyre.”
The review continues: “My initial rides were limited, but covered a good mix of surfaces: smooth and cracked pavement, hardpack gravel and downright sloppy trails. The grip is certainly there, even in the muck, and the tyres roll well. Quieter also than the Oracle Ridge tyres I’d usually ride in these wet conditions. The Corkscrew feels faster than its all-knob siblings, though that’s purely anecdotal at this stage.” Her conclusion: “My first impressions are favourable. It’s a fast-rolling tyre that delivers reliable cornering traction in wet conditions.”
Rather than tell you more about the review, I suggest you just read it yourself.
