Meaghan Wins Hellenic Mountain Race
Four days and seven hours later, and Meaghan Hackinen has won the Hellenic Mountain Race, finishing ninth overall. Not just that, she’s also pulverized the women’s record for this ultra-tough event by eleven hours. On a course that climbs (and descends) 27,800 meters (91,200 ft)—with no flat sections to recover from the efforts—Meaghan rode into the lead of the women’s field early in the race. She rode strongly and consistently, building her lead all the way to the finish. What a performance!
What’s even more impressive is Meaghan’s attitude: Every photo shows her with a smile. She posted updates during the race, where she talked about how much she enjoyed it: “An incredible route!” Which is fitting, since riding all three Mountain Races (Atlas, Hellenic, Silk Road) is her 40th birthday gift to herself—and having fun is an essential part of it. Meaghan equipped her Salsa Cutthroat with 29″ x 2.2″ Fleecer Ridge Endurance dual-purpose knobbies for the race.

We’ll have more from Meaghan once she’s got some rest (and celebrated). Until then, check out Meaghan’s dispatch from the start line, if you haven’t already.
And a huge congrats, Meaghan!
