Rene Herse Aluminum Stem


Probably the most iconic stem ever made, the Rene Herse Aluminum Stem is superlight, yet strong enough for the most challenging rides. Its minimalist shape has just enough aluminum to surround the steerer tube and handlebars, with two bars connecting them. CNC-machined from an extruded bar, the material’s grain structure is aligned with the final shape for ultimate strength (as it is in a forged part). The M6 bolts are large enough to hold stem and bars tightly even on rough terrain, yet they are made from high-strength titanium to save weight. Rene Herse Aluminum Stems have proven themselves for decades in rides like the Oregon Outback, Paris-Brest-Paris, the Raid Pyrénéen and many adventures all over the world.

Looking down on the unique hole in the center while you ride will put a smile on your face. (But don’t take your eyes off the road for long!) The Rene Herse Aluminum Stem includes a flex-free cable stop for centerpull and cantilever brakes. It integrates seamlessly with the Rene Herse decaleur to attach a handlebar bag and with the Rene Herse Light Switch.

The stem is available in two versions: The standard version’s handlebar clamp bolts thread directly into the lower portion of the stem. The version for a decaleur has unthreaded holes for the bar clamp and comes with longer bolts and aluminum nuts to hold the decaleur.

Important: The Rene Herse Aluminum Stem mounts to a 22 mm tube that is brazed into the steerer tube of a standard (threaded) fork (available separately). This allows for a smaller (and lighter) stem, and it keeps the inside of the steerer tube empty for easy installation of a Rene Herse Light Switch. If you don’t use a light switch, install the press-fit Rene Herse Stem Cap.

Pro Tip: With aero brake levers, route the front brake cable in a wide loop so it enters the stem from the opposite side.
