Straz Sealant Funnels
With all the excitement over our TPU tubes, it might seem like we’re about to abandon tubeless. Nothing could be further from the truth! All our gravel pros ride their Rene Herse tires tubeless. (They carry TPU tubes as spares, just in case.) It was Ted King who turned us onto the Straz Sealant Funnels. We’ve now added them to our program.
The funnels are a brilliant idea if you’re looking for an easier way to add sealant to your tubeless tires (or your TPU tubes). Simply thread the funnel onto the valve, add sealant, and watch it drain into the tire.
The sealant drains slowly, and the funnel’s 30 ml capacity makes it easy to gauge how much sealant you’re putting into the tire. The funnel works great with most sealants, including Rene Herse Supple Tubeless Sealant. Our sealant contains ground walnut shells that really help with sealing supple casings. Supple Sealant is great at sealing holes and cuts in the casing—which also means it doesn’t like to go through small holes. The Straz funnels are big enough to avoid that problem. They also work great with our TPU Tube Sealant. For cleanup, just rinse with water.

There are two models: The blue funnel is for fully threaded valves—that’s probably what you have. There are some valves where the first 5 mm are not threaded. For those, use the orange funnel. It can handle both fully and partially threaded valves. Why not use the orange funnel for all valves? The longer threads take a bit longer to screw onto the valve.
And here’s a tip from Tim Straz, who manufactures the funnels in New Hampshire: If you’d like the sealant to go in faster, pinch and release the tire to create a vacuum that sucks in the sealant.
