26″ Tires & Bags on Sale; TPU Tube Pre-Order

Before we go into our sale, just a quick note that another shipment of TPU tubes is on the way. There isn’t much we can say about the tubes that hasn’t been said, so I’ll quote a friend and customer instead. He’s definitely not a racer, but uses his bike every day for commuting and work. By coincidence, we met at a traffic light recently and rode a short stretch of trail together.

We talked about all kinds of things, and when our ways parted, he shouted after me: “By the way, the TPU tubes are awesome.” He was gone before I could ask whether he was happy about the light weight, the small packing volume, the low rolling resistance, or the great durability. I suspect it was a combination of all these factors.

To avoid the rush when the next shipment comes in, you can now pre-order your TPU tubes. All sizes and valve models are available for pre-order—and patch kits, too.

We’ve been excited about 26″ tires since we started making tires. Both Natsuko and I run bikes with 26″ wheels. We use every model of 26″ tires in the Rene Herse program on our bikes: On the Alps she bought in college, Natsuko runs the 30 mm-wide Elk Pass. Her C.S. Hirose, one of the last built by the master, was designed around the 42 mm-wide Naches Pass (above). And I run the 54 mm Rat Trap Pass slicks and Humptulips Ridge knobbies on several bikes. That’s just one reason why we support 26″ bikes with more high-performance tire models than any other maker—and will continue to do so long-term.

Our most popular 26″ tire is the Naches Pass. At 42 mm-wide (give or take 1-2 mm depending on your rim width, the casing you choose, your tire pressure, and whether you mount the tires tubeless or with tubes), it’s perfect for custom bikes in smaller sizes, but also for classic Bridgestone XOs, Surly Long-Haul Truckers with 26″ wheels, and many other bikes that don’t fit our ultra-wide Rat Trap Pass.

We recently found a box of Naches Pass Extralights in black with our old logo. We’re offering these tires at a big 35% discount. They carry our full warranty, the only difference is the logo. (Sorry, we don’t have a photo of the old logo…) This is a great opportunity to get new tires for a beloved bike. (Update: The tires are sold.)

We’ve also have our remaining stocks of most Berthoud bags on sale. These are great bags, but we’ve decided to take bag design in-house, so we can add features we need and want for our gravel adventures. That means that we’ll discontinue these bags, and the remaining quantities are 25% off.

Included in the sale are handlebar bags, cell phone pockets, and underseat bags, aka as ‘Banana Bags.’ We also have a small quantity of the Small Universal Bag (above) that you can mount in many places on your bike. This bag fits on your handlebars (no rack or decaleur required) or under your saddle (if you have saddlebag loops). You can also use it as a racktop bag or attach it to the sides of your rack. All these Berthoud bags are 25% off. (Update: The bags are sold.)

When we started working with Nitto many years ago, the first product we developed together was a stem for 1 1/8″ threadless steerers. It’s a beautiful stem, and pretty much the only way to get a reliable decaleur for a handlebar bag on a bike with a threadless steerer. Being made from steel, this stem a bit heavier than the other stems in the Rene Herse program. We are discontinuing this model after almost a decade in the program. The remaining stems are 120 mm long, and they are 25% off. The matching Rene Herse decaleurs will remain in the program, as they are popular with custom builders who make their own stems.
