Meaghan’s Bike for Silk Road Mountain Race

And they are off! The Silk Road Mountain Race started yesterday. As I’m writing this, it’s already heating up to become an exciting race, with the top-three riders just a few kilometers apart as they traverse the inhospitable mountains of Kyrgyzstan. In 9th overall, and first woman, is Meaghan Hackinen.

Just before the start, Meaghan posted a video where she goes through her bike and every piece of equipment she carries. I find it fascinating to see how much thought she’s put into every part of her gear, and how neatly everything fits on her bike. I guess the experience from winning Tour Divide and Hellenic Mountain Race really shows. Enjoy the video, then follow her progress (and that of the other racers) on the tracker (link below).

We’ve also got an update from Sofiane, who has ridden almost 13,000 km on his World Record Attempt of crossing all of Europe and Asia. We’ve all been worried when his tracker stopped moving in the middle of nowhere. Sofiane is fine, it’s just his tracker that isn’t, for reasons unknown. He’s making good progress now that he’s in China, and he’ll document his ride on Strava while the tracker is out of commission—once he finds a SIM card that allows him to upload the data. Good luck and keep it up, Sofiane!
