Update: Sofiane’s World Record Attempt
On July 1, Sofiane left southern Portugal to embark on his biggest adventure yet: a world record attempt for the crossing of Euroasia. Sofiane has 64 days to cover the distance of more than 16,000 km (10,000 miles) to Vladivostok in eastern Siberia.

After a somewhat challenging start, when rain and then heat caused his body to struggle, Sofiane (red dot) has settled in. Seven days into his ride, he has passed the 2,000 km mark. He’s crossed the Pyrenees and now the Alps and is riding across Italy. His schedule calls for riding 300 km a day—so far’s he’s averaged 338! He’s also quite some ways ahead of the current record pace (green dot).

Sofiane reports that his bike and tires have been trouble-free. Right now, he’s riding smooth 700×38 Barlow Pass Endurance tire. Once he gets to Asia, he plans to swap them for 700×44 Corkscrew Climb semi-slicks, also in the Endurance casing.
The road to Vladivostok is still long, and we wish Sofiane tailwinds, good weather and good luck.
