Crowdfunding: All-Black Tires

Our ‘Suggestions’ form continues to be popular. We love to hear from you, our customers! Your suggestions range from additional information on our website—which we’ve implemented in dozens of cases—to new products. Among product suggestions, by far the most popular are all-black tires. As one reader put it: “Black goes with every bike!”

We agree. That’s why we already offer most Rene Herse road and all-road tires with black Extralight casings. But what about black Endurance casings? And what about our dual-purpose knobbies and the new semi-slicks? And then there was the tantalizing photo of my Firefly with all-black 26″ Humptulips Ridge tires (below). So many of you have asked When they can get some of those. (The tires were prototypes, made with black casings because that’s what was in production at the time.)

We can’t really add that many new models to our program, so we thought about a way to satisfy the undisputed need for these black tires. The solution is crowdfunding: We’re offering a number of all-black tires in a crowdfunding drive. The price is the same as the regular models with tan sidewalls. Each all-black tire model that receives 300 pre-orders by April 30, 2026, will make it into production. The pre-ordered tires will ship in late June or early July. What if the tire model you want doesn’t reach the 300-tire goal? Then you’ll get a full refund by May 15.
