BQ fundraiser for children in need
Originally, today’s article was going to be about small details that matter, like the position of the headlight for descending gravel roads in the dark. Then Becca Book won the Dark Divide 300 on Fleecer Ridge tires after a tough race. That’s certainly a cause for celebration. But there are more important things.
Advocacy by companies seems to be a little out of fashion these days—the political winds have shifted—but the needs in the world are more pressing than ever. Perhaps it just means we aren’t a company like most others: We can’t just watch while children are starving in Sudan, Gaza and other places. We may feel powerless, but we aren’t. Small gestures can cascade into bigger changes, like small mountain creeks that coalesce into mighty lowland rivers.
We’ve been thinking about what we can do. We’ve decided to go big—as big as we can: For the next 48 hours, until the end of Monday (Aug. 4, 2025), we’ll donate all proceeds from Bicycle Quarterly subscriptions and sales of past editions, as well as sales of our books The All-Road Bike Revolution and René Herse: The Bikes • The Builder • The Riders to two trusted, non-partisan charities that really do provide help on the ground: Doctors Without Borders and Save The Children.
Here is how it works:
- Place your order as usual. The donation will be automatic.
- For each Bicycle Quarterly subscription, we will donate $ 44. International subscriptions also qualify, but the donation is the same. (We can’t donate the extra cost of international postage.)
- The full cover price of books will be donated (but not shipping costs).
- You can buy multiple books, or combine books and magazines. You can buy only one subscriptions per person. (We don’t offer multi-year subscriptions.)
- Gift subscriptions qualify, and you can buy as many as you’d like.
- You can combine this offer with other purchases.
- Your order must be placed before midnight (Pacific Time) on Monday, Aug. 4, 2025, to qualify. Purchase must be made at our website www.renehersecycles.com.
- If, for some reason, you want to buy books, magazines or subscriptions in the next 48 hours and not donate, we respect that. Put a note in the order comments “No donation, please.”
You want to help, but can’t decide what to choose?

Bicycle Quarterly is the magazine about the passion of cycling. Articles cover amazing rides and adventures, beautiful bikes, visits to builders all over the world, technical research into how bikes work and inspiring history, plus award-winning photos.

The All-Road Bike Revolution summarizes all the technical research that has changed bicycles for the better over the last 20 years in a fun, easy-to-read format. Find out why wide tires roll as fast as narrow ones, how bike geometry works, why frame stiffness is important for performance and much, much more—including practical advice on how to find the best bike for your body, your speed and your riding style. Illustrated with whimsical drawings by Miyoshi—because reading about bikes should be as much fun as riding them.
René Herse: The Bikes • The Builder • The Riders is the story of how René Herse went from making prototype aircraft to creating amazing bikes. Well, that’s part of it. The bigger, and arguably more important, part is the community of riders that rode his bikes in rides, brevets, adventures and races all over the world. For them, cycling wasn’t merely a pastime, but a way of life. In addition to studio photos of the most beautiful Rene Herse bikes, there are hundreds of historic photos. Stories from Herse’s riders, employees and family bring this book to life.
